Many communities are protesting against the film Maharaj starring Junaid Khan and Jaideep Ahlawat, produced by Yash Raj Films and streaming partner Netflix. They protested against this film saying that it is an attempt to hurt religious sentiments, so yesterday (14 June) the Gujarat High Court has put a stay on the film.
Yash Raj Films and streaming partner Netflix are challenging the court order of Junaid Khan and Jaideep Ahlawat starrer film Maharaj, multiple industry sources have confirmed.
The film is directed by Siddharth P. Malhotra and stars Junaid Khan, Jaideep Ahlawat, Saline Pandey. Maharaj was scheduled to premiere on Netflix on June 14 but it did not happen as the Gujarat High Court stayed its release following a petition by members of a Hindu sect who claimed the film hurt their religious sentiments.
The film, which marks the debut of Aamir Khan’s son Junaid Khan, is based on the 1862 defamation case between a Vaishnavite religious leader and a journalist, Karsandas Mulji, who had alleged in an article in a Gujarati weekly that a female devotee had sexual relations with the lord.
Maharaj movie was trending on social media on Wednesday, social media was trending with the hashtag maharaj movie on x and on Thursday amir khan was also trending on x.
The Gujarat High Court on Thursday stayed the release of the movie in response to a petition by members of the Vaishnav sect of Hinduism.
A single judge bench of Justice Murthy Sangeeta Visheshan passed the order against the film and issued notice to Netflix and Yash Raj Films. Justice Sangeeta Visheshan has fixed the next hearing of the case on June 18. The hearing is to be held on June 18.

According to a press release released last month by Netflix, Maharaj is a special kind of film which follows a man accused of misconduct and journalist and social reformer Mooljan Ji who fights against society for the rights of women. He was a leading lawyer.
Petitioners from the Hindu Vaishnava sect have claimed before the Gujarat High Court that if more film releases are allowed, public facilities will be damaged. Public order will be affected if their religious sentiments are hurt by trying to hurt them seriously. There is a possibility of violence against the followers of the sect.
